Say hello to Kim of Yellow Brick Home and The Pet Shop! I met Kim at Business with Intention, and not only does she have an inspiring home (I LOVE her patio!), she also paints the most adorable pet portraits. Here’s a look at her life at the moment (and her shop!):
What are you crushing on?
STYLE // I always joke that I’m better at dressing my home than myself, but I certainly try! I’m all about comfort, and I can’t get enough V-neck tees. These tissue tees from J Crew are hands down, my favorite. Paired with jeans, sandals and studs (these gumdrops from Kate Spade are my go to – I have a few colors), and I’m ready for dinner and a movie!
BEAUTY // My friend recently got me hooked on Bobbi Brown gel eyeliner, and I love it in the cobalt ink. When I like to dress up, rather than switch my tees for a dress, I grab Nars Heatwave lipstick – yow!
HOME // Pale pinks, minty greens and bold colors mixed in. Scott and I are color lovers, so we like to use icy blues and cool greys as neutrals throughout our home, then we layer in bright furniture and graphic pillows.
What are you dreaming about?
DESTINATION // We’re heading to the Pacific Northwest at the end of summer for our anniversary. We can’t wait to take in a part of our country we’ve never seen, Canada included! Vancouver, BC is on the agenda, as well as Seattle and Portland. Oh, how we wish we were leaving tomorrow.
CURRENT GOAL // Practicing a life/work balance. I’m the hardest boss I’ve ever had; I’m learning to enjoy every moment, from work to play.
ON HER BUCKET LIST // I’m a maniacal hockey fan, and I’d give anything to meet Mario Lemieux. If Sidney Crosby was there too, I’d die a happy, happy lady. I can’t even comprehend how I’d react, but I get the chills just thinking about it!
What are you currently doing?
ON HER TO-DO LIST // I’m working on new products for The Pet Shop, including black & white drawings and – fingers crossed – custom pillows by the end of this year. Once we fine tune our ideas, we’ll be bursting to share them with our readers!
CURRENTLY READING LISTENING TO // The Kills. I can’t stop. And I’m not gonna lie, Mariah Carey still makes my heart sing (Music Box, anyone?). I drive Scott crazy, but I’d like to think he finds it endearing…
BLOGGING ABOUT // The Studio! Scott and I poured ourselves into that room, and I couldn’t be happier to work within those 4 walls every day.
Bonus Points: Tell us about your shop!
After gifting Scott a mini pet portrait as a birthday gift years ago and sharing it with our blog readers, I began receiving orders by email. After a year of working behind-the-scenes on mini pet portraits, we officially opened The Pet Shop in September of 2010. Since then (and over 400 portraits later!), we’ve recently undergone some major changes, and we converted our PayPal blog buttons to a one-stop standalone web store. As mentioned above, we’re looking to add products to our shop that cover a wider range of price points, including digital hand-drawn prints and home decor pillows. As the parents of 2 adopted felines and one pampered pooch, we couldn’t be happier to bond with our clients over our shared love of pets.
The support of our readers and clients continues to be amazing, and we’re thankful every day. 10% of all our proceeds goes towards nonprofit animal rescues; our way of giving back to those four-legged kiddos we love so much.

First of all, I love the colors in her home! I wish I could get motivated to overhaul sections of my own home.
Second, every person I know who loves hockey loves the Penguins. Maybe because a bunch of my friends are Pittsburghers? I even have a Crosby shirt.
Third, those portraits are amazing! I’m tempted to plop down the cash and have Leela immortalized.
Love the idea of pet pillows!! Saving up my pennies already.
That dog portrait on the red canvas is so striking! Super-adorable house, too!
This is so cool! I’ve never heard of Yellow Brick Home (crazy!) but their home and interiors look amazing. Definitely checking out their blog. The pet portraits look incredible.
I love this series and I love those dog portraits!
Hi Lisa! I’m new to your blog and found you through MML and Yellow Brick Home. Love this series and your blog! I have a lot of catching up to do.
The house AND the pet portraits are amazing! Yellow Brick Home has officially been added to my Google Reader!
These pet portraits are gorgeous….I will say it again, but this is my favorite series because I always find another amazing blogger or creative person that inspires me that I’ve yet to hear about.
