Freja Beha Erichsen for H&M
You all know how much I love color, but lately, I find myself constantly reaching for the neutrals in my closet. I absolutely cannot get enough of my new favorite gray sweater, black jeans, and either riding boots or leopard print flats — something about the combination is so cozy, yet effortlessly chic. What do you think?

There’s something about fall and winter that make neutrals so much more appealing. I find myself gravitating towards navy, grey, and brown more often than not, but I’m thinking of adding more camel and winter white too. Love those riding boots!
I wasn’t a fan of camel at first, but it truly is one of the most versatile neutrals.
if you add burgundy/oxblood/whatever we are calling it today to the mix, i am the same way. makes it so easy to pack for weekend trips!
I am opposed to the term “oxblood” haha. Who came up with that?! But yes, totally agree. That’s the other combo I keep wearing — gray striped top, burgundy cardigan, and black pants.
Welcome to my closet, Lisa. That’s all I wear. I would say it’s just a “fall/winter” thing for me, but since it’s 50 in the summer here, it’s my year round wardrobe now. Like Rita, it certainly makes it easier to pick out outfits for travel, or to have a smaller closet that all works together. I tend to add in shades of burgundy, plum, olive, dark teal, and navy for color. Maybe a little red in the summer if I’m feeling feisty.
I need to be taking serious notes on your closet staples posts, I often work more from season to season and overlook staples, like good neutrals that work well together.
I am the queen of neutrals, and I love them, especially during the winter.
What is it about winter that makes you want neutrals? I feel like I’m always looking for the perfect gray sweater every year.
I love a good neutral. Mainly because it makes getting dressed ridiculously easy! Black cardigans, cognac boots, leopard flats – I wear them weekly because they’re so versatile!
I live in my cognac boots during the winter — they just go so well with everything!
When I want to look “put together,” I end up gravitating towards neutrals — black, off-white, grey, camel, cognac — with some simple gold jewelry. And I agree, leopard print is a glam touch that totally acts as a neutral.
I totally agree — as much as I love my colors, I feel a bit more grown up in neutrals.
Yes, I have pretty much every color in my closet. But I also realized that most of my quality/investment pieces are more neutral, so that could have something to do with it!
Those flats are the bee’s knees! Must have.
I can totally see you wearing them!

Lisa, those gold glitter cap toe leopard print flats are AWESOME! And this me, the girl who LIVES in heels, saying this about flats! I love how they add such an awesome pop to the otherwise neutral ensemble!
